Considering A Full Face Lift?
Are wrinkles and sagging facial skin starting to drag you down? You're not alone - everyone misses the softer, glowing days of yesteryear. Fortunately there's an effective answer to the problem of our aging skin - facelift surgery. There is no fountain of youth and there are no time machines, but face lift surgery is a real solution that can help you turn back the hands of time!
Facelift is a tried and tested procedure that that can reverse the effects of aging and give you a younger and fresher appearance. At Destination Beauty, we can help you find and consult with a qualified surgeon who will rejuvenate not only your look, but your outlook as well.
A facelift is a type of cosmetic surgery that involves the tightening of facial muscles and skin. The procedure aims to get you a well-rested fresh appearance from forehead to neck while maintaining your natural facial expression and avoiding the artificial "pulled" look. To be a candidate for this procedure, you have to be generally healthy, maintain some skin elasticity and have a well-defined bony structure. Of course, you'd have to have clear and realistic expectations of what you wish to achieve.
How Is Full Facelift Surgery in Thailand Performed?
Facelift is done under general anesthetic although the surgical approach varies for every surgeon. The exact position of the incisions depends on your facial structure and the surgeon's technique. Incisions usually start from the temples above the hairline and continue in front of the ear and carries on behind the earlobe to the lower scalp. If you are also having a neck lift, you may have a small incision for that element of the procedure.
After that, the surgeon separates the skin from the fat and muscle below before tightening the underlying muscles and pulling the skin back and removing the excess skin. Stitches secure layers of tissue and incisions and metal clips maybe used on the scalp. The scars will be hidden around your ears or in your hairline and will usually lighten or disappear about one year after the procedure.
How Do I Prepare For Full Facelift Surgery?
Preparing for facelift surgery requires as much time and care as recovering from surgery. If you want the best results from the procedure, your lifestyle will have to include maintenance of your health and a sense of well-being.
You must stop smoking tobacco products, consuming alcohol and taking medications and vitamins two weeks before (and after) the date of surgery. Taking certain medications and supplements can significantly increase bleeding and put you at risk. You will also need medical clearance from your primary physician and blood work to assess your health and uncover any possible underlying conditions that could compromise recovery.
You must also fast eight hours before the surgery which means you should not eat anything on the day of the procedure. On the day before the surgery, eat well but only mild food. Avoid anything spicy, rich or greasy.
How Safe is Full Facelift Surgery?
Facelift surgery is a very safe procedure and has a really high satisfaction rate among patients. However, any operation comes with risks and the possibility of complications. Risks specific to facelift surgery include:
- Injury to the nerves that control facial muscles, which is usually temporary. It usually corrects itself in about 6 months.
- Skin may take longer time to recover, which is common for patients who smoke.
- Crust on the incision which is also usually temporary.
- Numbness around the incision areas, also temporary. The feeling is usually recovered in eight to 12 weeks.
- Temporary hair loss.
- Skin discoloration, which is uncommon but will heal in a few months.
- Broken capillaries which can be treated with laser.
What Is Recovery From Full Facelift Surgery Like?
Following the operation, you may experience some bruising and swelling around the area, but most patients do not complain of severe pain. You may be asked to keep your head elevated for a couple of days to keep the swelling down. Plan on a soft diet for a day or two as your face will feel tight and it may be uncomfortable to open your mouth, bite or chew.
Within a day or two, you will be up and about, but you should take it easy the first week after surgery. You should avoid strenuous activities, including sex and heavy housework for at least two weeks. You should also get enough rest to allow your body to heal properly. These, together with closely following whatever other advice your surgeon will give you, are important to ensure optimal healing and recovery. You can expect to be back to your regular routine 10-14 days after surgery.
