Is a Chin Implant For You?

A weak chin can be due to congenital deficiency, age-related bone resorption or facial trauma. This can make you nose look larger and give you an appearance of a "fleshy" neck. If you want improvement - not perfection - with the way you look, then you may be a good candidate for a chin implant.

Basically, a chin implant gives balance to your facial structure resulting from a stronger chin and a more defined jaw line. The surgery can be done in conjunction with a rhinoplasty or nose job for a more proportioned facial appearance.

Preparing for Surgery

During consultations with your surgeon, you will be given certain instructions that you need to follow for the days leading up to your chin implant. This will most probably include staying away from tobacco and alcoholic products two weeks before the procedure. You will also most likely be asked to adjust or totally stop the intake of certain medicines, vitamins and supplements as these may result in complications or hinder the healing process.

It is important that you fully understand how the procedure is done, and also the potential risks and complications that go with it.

How Chin Implant is Done

During chin implant surgery, your surgeon will make a small incision under your chin or along your lower lip to create a pocket where the implant will be inserted. The type of material to be used as implant is solid silicone. This material is non-toxic and does not normally induce any adverse reactions on the body.

The implant is then inserted into the pocket over the front of the jawbone. Cuts under the skin are closed with dissolving stitches and incisions outside of the skin are held together with removable stitches.

You will be under local anesthesia with sedation for this outpatient procedure. If performed by itself, a chin implant takes 30 minutes to an hour to complete.

What Happens After

Although results are usually immediately apparent, it is normal to experience some discomfort and difficulty moving your mouth for several days following your surgery. Most swelling and bruising will improve within a week. Mild numbness may last for several weeks.

You will be asked to refrain from activities that may involve your face being exposed. You should also avoid applying undue force around your chin area for about three to four weeks. Your surgeon will give you specific dietary and dental hygiene instructions as well as other advice to ensure optimum healing.

As with all cosmetic surgery procedures, there are risks of unwanted side effects and complications that go with a chin implant although they are very rare. Some risks specific to chin implant surgery include:

  • Adverse reaction to anesthesia
  • Collection of blood underneath the skin
  • Infection
  • The chin implant moving out of position
  • The chin implant being rejected by the body

Key Procedure Detail

Key Procedure Detail

There's a lot to know about having this procedure done, but we've broken down the key details for all our Australian friends out there!

Prices Start at $864 AUD

Our partner hospitals offer this procedure starting at an actual cost of $864 AUD, but your personal situation along with the hospital you choose and the surgeon's recommendation will determine the final quoted price - but don't worry, we'll work with you on that :)

Spend 10 days in Thailand

You will need to plan to spend 10 days in Thailand to allow for proper recovery and a final checkup before returning to Australia.

And No Nights in Hospital

Eyelid surgery is performed on an outpatient basis, so while the staff at the hospital will make sure that you're in good shape afterward, there's usually no reason to keep you at the hospital overnight and you'll be free to return to your vacation soon after your procedure has finished - provided that you follow the post-surgical guidelines, of course.

Initial Recovery: 14 Days

The surgeon will discuss the full recovery period with you, but you'll need to spend these days in Thailand for an initial recovery period just to make sure everything's going fine before you head back to Australia.

Under General Anesthesia

The procedure is performed under General Anesthesia, meaning that you'll be asleep for the duration and shouldn't experience any pain or discomfort.

What Does The Cost Cover?

The cost will cover everything related to your surgery itself, your care and the services needed to make sure you get the best results possible! That means that the cost covers your hospital stay, surgeon's consultation, the procedure itself, any medication, any follow-up checkup you might have, the meals you're served - and a free gift from us :) We always do our best to quote you the full price up front and we NEVER CHARGE A BOOKING FEE. We just want to make that clear, because many companies in Australia do!
