All you need to do to get started is answer our medical questionnaire and we'll take it from there!
Candidates for Male Breast Reduction
The condition of over-developed and enlarged breasts in men is called gynecomastia. This can be the result of heredity, hormonal changes, disease or the use of certain drugs. This condition can afflict men of any age and may be present in either one or both breasts. Gynecomastia is characterized by excess localized fat, excess glandular tissue development, or a combination of both.
Gynecomastia surgery is a good option for you if you are physically healthy and have relatively normal weight. It is also important that your breast development has stabilized. Ideally, you should be a non-smoker and a non-drug user. Of course, having a positive outlook and realistic expectations is always a plus in any undertaking.
Consultation Stage
We can immediately arrange an initial virtual consultation with one of our partner surgeons in Thailand. When you do later on decide to have the procedure done, the sessions - whether live or online - will be more in-depth.
Your general readiness to undergo the procedure will be evaluated during consultations. You will be asked questions about your medical history and your lifestyle practices to determine pre-existing health conditions and risk factors. You will also be asked to discuss your desires and expectations about the operation. To a great extent, the success of your operation depends on your complete openness during consultations.
Pre-Surgery Preparations
As part of your pre-surgery preparations, you may be asked to undergo diagnostic testing to determine the underlying cause of your gynecomastia. Your surgeon may also examine your breasts and take detailed measurements of their size and shape, skin quality and placement of your nipples and areolas.
You will be asked to stop smoking for several weeks before surgery. You will likewise be advised to avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs and certain herbal supplements that can increase the risk of bleeding. If you are currently taking medications, you may be asked to adjust the dosage or completely stop taking them.
The Breast Reduction Procedure
Plastic surgery to correct gynecomastia is technically called reduction mammaplasty. The most common technique involves making an anchor-shaped incision around your areola extending downward following the natural curve of the crease beneath your breast. Your surgeon then removes the excess tissue, fat and skin then moves the nipple and areola into their new position. Your surgeon then brings the skin from both sides of the breast down and shapes the new contour of the breast.
In cases where your condition is caused primarily by excess fatty tissue, liposuction alone may be used. This technique requires the insertion of a thin hollow tube called a cannula through several small incisions. The cannula is moved back and forth in a controlled motion to loosen the excess fat which is then extracted from the body through vacuum suction.
Post Surgery Care and Recovery
Your breasts will be bruised, swollen and may feel some pain for one to two days following your surgery. There will also be mild discomfort for about a week. These can be managed by pain relief medication your surgeon will prescribe. You can also expect temporary loss of sensation in your nipples and breast skin because of the swelling, which will subside over the next six weeks.
You should be up and about in one to two days after your operation. However, you should not plan on returning to work or normal routine for about two weeks. You should avoid strenuous activities and heavy lifting for three to four weeks. It is also important that the surgical incisions are not subjected to excessive force, abrasion or motion during the time of healing.
Your surgeon will tell you everything you need to know about post-surgery care and recovery and following his instructions closely can ensure optimal healing.
A successful breast reduction surgery has long-lasting, and in most cases with men, permanent results.
